10 Best Primary and Middle Schools in Karachi

Karachi is the biggest city of Pakistan with migrants from all over the country. The city offers some of the best educational institutes in Pakistan and the competition among schools is extremely tough. It is even more difficult for parents to select the best school for their children due to unavailability of information on fee structure, facilities and quality of education. We have created a list of 10 best primary (Grade I to Grade V) and middle (Grade VI to XI) schools in Karachi based on the quality of education, alumni performance and facilities offered.

Karachi Grammar School

Established in 1847, Karachi Grammar School (KGS) is the oldest school of Karachi and second oldest in South Asia. KGS is a private school which has produced some of the famous people in Pakistan. KGS is coeducation, English medium school and has three main campuses; College Section, Middle Section and Kindergarten and Junior Sections. The main Middle branch is located in Saddar while College section and Junior Sections are located in Khayaban-e-Saadi, Clifton.

Every year, KGS offers admission to over 2500 students and the registration time starts after February.  Getting admitted to KGS depends on several factors including parents’ position and education, their understanding with kids, and most importantly how smart the child is. For students in Grade 3 and above, academic performance is rated higher over other factors.

The monthly fee for KGS is around Rs. 18,000 – Rs. 20,000.

Beacon House School System

Beacon House School System was founded in 1975 by Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri and has expanded its branches to all provinces in Pakistan as well as overseas in Belgium, Malaysia, Oman, Philippines, Thailand, UAE and UK. Beacon house was the first school in Pakistan to adopt an in-service teacher’s training system in collaboration with Bradford University which has helped BSS maintain its standard in over 146 branches all over Pakistan. BSS has an edge over other schools in providing a variety of education programs including IB system, Reggio-Emilia approach, international play centers and child development centers.

Karachi has around 50 campuses of BSS, covering students from play group to O and A levels. The admissions are totally based on academic merit for all grade levels. BSS is a well-recognized institution internationally as well and has produced several famous personalities of Pakistan. Some of them include Nadia Hussain, Sidra Iqbal, Hassan Shahryar Khan and many others.

The monthly fee for BSS is around Rs. 17,000 – Rs. 30,000.

Mama Parsi School

Mama Parsi Girls’ High School was established in 1918 and is one of the best schools in Karachi. Students of Mama Parsi are known to not only develop academically but also have great social and personal development.

The school offers education from Grade 1 to Intermediate as well as O and A levels. The admissions in Mama Parsi are merit based and the competition is extremely tough due to high standard of education and reasonable fee structure.

The monthly fee for Mama Parsi is around Rs. 4600 – Rs. 6000.

Dawood Public School

Founded in 1983, Dawood Public School is an all-girls school that offers education from pre-school to O and A levels. It is one of the best schools that offer quality education with balanced environment. DPS also launched Saturday schools to offer variety of courses and activities that are more up to date with today’s world. Languages, Young journalism, Arts and Crafts, STEM education, Robotics, Rugby, Taekwondo, Music, Etiquette program and several other courses are offered by the school. Over years DPS has established a great repute in the country with its education and extracurricular activities. DPS offers high quality education in affordable fees and admission criteria is totally based on merit.

The monthly fee for Dawood Public School is around Rs. 8300 – Rs. 10,000.

BVS Parsi High School

Established in 1859 by Seth Shapurji, BVS Parsi High school is a prestigious school in Karachi which opened its doors for non-Parsis since 1947. BVS offers high quality education along with extracurricular activities like cricket, hockey, badminton, swimming, table tennis, volley ball, basketball and football. Admission in BVS is very difficult due to high competition from all over Sindh. The admission criteria for BVS is purely based on merit and does not differentiate on basis of any personal factor.

The monthly fee for BVS is around Rs. 4500 – Rs. 6500.

Foundation Public School

FPS was established in 1981 and is considered as one of the best educational institutes in Pakistan with state-of-the-art campuses and innovative pedagogical methods. FPS has around 12 campuses in Karachi in areas of North Nazimabad, DHA, Shahrah-e-Faisal and Mohammad Ali Society. The Junior and Senior campuses of FPS offer education from Grade I to O and A levels.

The philosophy of school is based on freedom of thought and spirit as well as scientific and critical thinking. The junior campuses offer FPS Spark Program which is a non-mandatory program for students interested in STEM Robotics, Eagle Studio for developmental speech and Drama and Fitness 101 for Artistic Gymnastics and Taekwondo. Apart from these optional activities, FPS also offers extracurricular activities of Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Rowing, Table Tennis and Throw ball.

The admission process at FPS is entirely based on academic performance with basic test of English, Urdu and Mathematics depending on grade level.

The fee structure for FPS is around Rs. 19,000 – Rs. 23,000

Bay View School

Bay View School (BVS) was established in 1994 and is considered an upper class school with excellent academic services among private schools. The campuses of BVS are located in DHA and Clifton and offer latest equipment and facilities for e-learning and other disciplines. Extracurricular activities at BVS include Cricket, Football, Arts and Crafts, Robotics, Taekwondo, Zumba, Skating, Public Speaking, Scrabble, Science Club, Basketball, Table Tennis, Rowing, Futsal, and Throw Ball.

The monthly fee for Bay View School is around Rs. 23,000 – Rs. 28,000

Center for Advanced Studies

CAS is another fine school in Karachi for primary and secondary education. The school is categorized as an upper class school based on location and fee structure. CAS was founded in 1981 and has quickly reached the top ten schools in Karachi, offering 14 year curriculum from preschool to A-levels. The curriculum at CAS is constantly evaluated and updated based on current trends internationally. For junior section (Grade III to Grade VI) there are no exams and regular assessments are taken to provide a learning environment.

For senior sections, there are language programmes, internship programmes, and debating society. For both junior and senior sections, regular after school sports and athletic activities are conducted. Sports and activities offered at CAS include Throw ball, Football, Tennis, Rowing, Cricket, Table Tennis, Athletics, Futsal and Basketball.

The monthly fee for CAS is around Rs. 25,000 – Rs. 28,000

Habib Public/ Girls’ School

Habib Public School and Habib Girls’ School is one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutes in country that has been imparting education since 1959. Founded by Mr. Muhammad Ali Habib who was a banker, philanthropist and great planner, Habib Public School started with a vision to become center of excellence and to make its students successful citizens, human beings and contributors to Pakistan. Habib Public School is an All-boys school while for girls, Habib Girls’ School was separately established. HPS/ HGS offer both O & A levels as well as Matriculation/ Intermediate Education System.

The girls’ campus under the name Habib Girls’ School was opened in 1964 with an aim to allow girls’ education as well as empowering them to achieve new levels in sports and extra-curricular activities. Habib Girls’ School has produced many national and international level players with their compulsory sports classes for students led by professional sports department. Some of the sports and activities at Habib Girls’ School include Volleyball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Racing, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Computer Society, Futuristic Science society, Literati, Logicians, Art Insight, and Bazm Ganje Shaigan.

Similarly, co-curricular activities and sports at Habib Public School include Hockey, Swimming, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Musical Activities, Debate and Discussion, Recitation competition, Science Modeling, Photography, Clay modeling, Declamation contest, etc.

Admission criteria for both boys’ and girls’ school is highly competitive and is based on parents’ and children’s interview and performance on admission test.

The monthly fee for Habib Public School is around Rs. 5500 – Rs. 8500 while for Habib Girls’ School is around Rs. 6400 – Rs. 7500.

White House Grammar School

White House Grammar School is a 40 year old educational institute of Karachi that has gained reputation for its academic excellence and a thriving learning environment.
